Cuttings

“There’s actually no such a thing as good publicity, there’s just planned and unplanned, and this is very much the latter.”

YouTuber turned actor Arthur Moses wins an Olivier Award, and moments later goes on to drunkenly deliver the most offensive, outrageous and profanity laden speech in the ceremony’s history.

His publicists Gracelyn, Ruchi and Danica have quite a morning ahead of them. They’ll need to apologise on his behalf all whilst fielding calls, defusing social media, stamping out print, handling the talent, licking SOLT’s wounds and if Arthur could stop posting on Instagram for a second that would be great.

Cuttings was my first full length play. It had two staged readings which were performed at Theatre503. The reading was performed by Jamie Rose Monk, Izzy Dawes and Dhanushuka Anson. The reading was directed by Rob Ellis. The time spent with 503 and the notes they gave on the show proved invaluable in helping me shape what would later become the full show.

The show would later go onto transfer to the Hope Theatre where it ran for three weeks.

The play was published by PlayDead Press and went on to be nominated for the Liverpool Hope Comedy Playwriting Prize 2019. The full production starred Natasha Patel, Maisie Preston and Joan Potter. The production was directed by Rob Ellis. Reviews below.
